World Problems - GLOBAL POVERTY & HUNGER
|
For students age 11-adult who are ready to confront the plague of our time, poverty and hunger. Over half the human race is poor or starving. What can be done about it? Find out today in this detailed course.
A Connect The Thoughts World Problems Unit Course. A self-contained course, to be done in under 30 hours. Global poverty and world hunger - a failure in mankind and a plague that has laid hundreds of millions of people in their graves on nearly every continent on Earth. As we speak, 25,000 people a day die of hunger and poverty-related ills! Poverty - a true plague that has fed on mankind throughout our entire history.
Here is a course which does not run away from this difficult subject. Provided is a definition of Poverty and hunger, and the seven great sins they give birth to. Each of these seven human woes is then considered in detail - what it is, its sources, and how it can be confronted and handled. The problem is first looked at from a global perspective, and then, a local one. Specific tools are offered for the handling of these spawn of poverty, and many exercises are provided. The student also does a fair amount of structured research, improving their skills as they discover ever more about this important problem.
Our World Problems Unit Courses are built to define humanity's greatest enemies. Each course then makes its target problem thoroughly understandable, and empowers the student to help solve that problem. If mankind is ever to grow into its maturity, if we're to survive, we must confront such shortcomings as poverty and world hunger. This begins with our children, who will help build a better, smarter, saner world than the one we live in today...if we give them the tools to do so.
The student will need access to the internet, a globe and an atlas (or internet atlas).

World Problems - HUMAN RIGHTS ABUSES
|
No issue has been more debated, or more important throughout history. A remarkable unit course which starts by defining what human beings are, and what rights are or should be, leading to a simple but profound definition of human rights. Then, the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights is broken down and considered article by article, line by line. The student does many creative and challenging exercises, which helps develop for the student their own ideas of what exactly human rights should be, and what steps should be taken to protect them. A course which will help shape the student's own existing ideas about human right into a sharp, clear vision leading to action, or which will open the student's awareness to the history and reality of human rights abuses, if the student has never considered them.
For the student determined to be the best person they can be! Around 25-35 hours of work. No additional materials besides a globe, dictionary, and access to the Internet are required. Test and answer guide are included!
